You are right, there is a great deal of disinformation going on. And a great deal of that is driven by institutionalism.

But the "masses" have two choices: they can go on bouncing around from one wrong choice to another, or they can find a real relationship with the Saviour who came, died and rose for each and every one of them. That's one of the purposes of this blog. It's not an easy road in a society where we're pushed to "go along to get along" and institutions which put themselves in God's place (and that covers more than just religious ones, too.) As one Jamaican minister told me, it's very hard to go against the culture. But the alternative is confusion in this life and worse in the next.

Don't you think whats actually happened is that the water is being deliberately muddied so that no one really knows WHAT to believe or who to trust? I think that is more a function of how those who control society (or wrestle for control of it) than those of us in the pews trying to figure out if we should sign off on something or not. In other words I find it hard to fault the masses for "following their own wishes" when information in the society around them has become so unreliable. I don't see it as a problem with people falling away from their faith or belief. Just look at how many different systems of faith there are set up around different interpretations of scripture? Why does John F or Don W choose Catholicism or the Episcopal faith, for example? It isn't because we are willing to "sign off on anything." There are many factors involved in that decision. In conclusion, I think most folks are genuinely confused and overwhelmed by the amount of deliberately conflicting information out there, and so they say "to hell with it" and go about "follow[ing] their own wishes, and, in their itching for novelty, procure themselves a crowd of teachers."
